Helga Jensen-Ruopp, Ed.D.
Born in a refugee camp in Czechoslovakia into a family displaced after WWII, Helga eventually emigrated to the USA. Since she didn’t understand English, she took to art as a way of expressing herself. Later, she attended Adelphi University receiving a Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees in Education with a concentration in Fine Arts. She began her teaching career in Long Island teaching elementary grades and later science and biology at Danbury High School. Along the way, she acquired a Master’s Degree in Oceanography and Limnology from Western Connecticut State University and a Doctorate of Education from Teachers College Columbia University. She also was an Adjunct Professor at Western CT State University. She was the K-12 Science Program Coordinator and later the Fine and Applied Art Curriculum Administrator for the Danbury school system. She teaches cooking and painting to children at the YMCA’s Escape to the Arts program.

Helga has four children and five grandchildren and lives with her husband and favorite art critic, Jim, in Hawleyville, CT along with their white Shepherd, Jake. Her choice of medium is acrylics, but works equally well in oil, watercolor, and ink.
